Our fiberglass saddle trees are the “clear” choice

We cast the tree and ground seat as a total finished product. As a result, all the parts work together to create greater strength and durability in the tree. Our tree is among the strongest in the world! The material has a strength of 3500 psi. There is no warping, no worries about popped seats and no broken horns. The finished ground seat saves hours of labor and allows customizing by adding one layer of leather. The tree remains semi rigid to enhance fit and comfort for both rider & horse.

By moving ahead and using the uni-cast tree, positive attributes have been gained while eliminating the problems associated with traditional trees. After a lifetime of working with traditional trees, it became apparent that a change was needed in the industry as a whole. Quality wood is increasingly hard to come by. In addition, the wood is prone to splitting and breakage due to a large number of knots. Rawhide is becoming more expensive and harder to obtain due to demand on the world hide market. Rawhide-covered trees are also prone to warping and breakage by the nature of the materials used.

Good news for our fiberglass trees

Our new FG series trees are not prone to these same dangers as listed below. This is why the new fiberglass covered trees allow you the best return on your investment.

Rawhide vs. Fiberglass

We make rawhide covered trees because they give like a tree in the wind. The wood and rawhide always brings it back until there’s too much wind.

Rawhide saddle trees are a long-standing tradition. Saddles made on a rawhide tree can last a hundred years. Just remember though the saddles made on a glass tree can last 200 years (or more) if cared for properly.

I first started building rawhide covered trees and then I swore by them. Later, I went to work at ML Leddys and learned the truth. I found out what a glass covered tree (with the groundwork in glass) was all about. Now I love them! Change if you want – that’s up to you.

Rawhide hidden dangers

Typically, warping and breakage is caused by the rawhide shrinking.Trapped moisture gets absorbed into the rawhide. When that happens, the rawhide laced seams open and that moisture penetrates the wood. Thus causing warping and rotting.
